Symbolic actions - Unity candles

Including a symbolic action into a ceremony can be a lovely way to create a special moment.  Over the next few weeks in my blog I will be focusing on a variety of symbolic actions.

Today I would like to share some ideas about Unity candles.

Candles are a symbol of love and hope, light and warmth, and celebration.

Unity candles are used to symbolise the coming together of two people or families.  They can be used within all ceremonies.

The Unity candle is placed in the centre between smaller candles which are lit before the opening of the ceremony. 

At the appropriate time tapers are lit from the small candles and then used to jointly light the Unity candle.  Each small candle represents an individual and together they help to light the Unity candle.
